Chy Destinee: how an influencer balances a full-time job and content creation

Chy Destinee is a social media star on the rise.

With over 150k TikTok followers, more than 3.8M likes and multiple videos breaking hundreds of thousands of views, she is cementing her place in the digital space.

And her approach is slightly unconventional.

There are countless stories of content creators who leave their regular jobs to pursue a digital career.

Just as there are so many who don’t venture into the influencer world because they fear its lack of stability.

But a rarer case is those who manage to juggle both at the same time, like Chy.

She left her job in machine learning to become a full-time TikToker, before choosing to go back to a 9-to-5.

Why did she go back? What’s her strategy? How does she juggle both sides?

On this week’s episode of Break The Internet, Chy tells Ben Kaplan all about her current situation and her reasons.

Why not both?

Chy's decision came from a blend of passion, pragmatism, and a desire for financial stability.

Unlike what may happen with many who dream of being an influencer, Chy is truly passionate about her career in the tech industry.

It’s just that her creative flair and storytelling abilities found a natural outlet on TikTok.

What she found was that they didn’t need to be mutually exclusive.

Chy saw an opportunity to leverage her skills and interests in both domains.

The truth is, as Chy recalls, influencer finances, even with stable deals, are inconsistent.

Brands that don’t pay on time. Content that doesn’t take off.

Those behind-the-scenes situations made her strive for more security.

And that’s when Chy found the best of both worlds that complement each other.

The two key pillars

According to Chyanna, there are two fundamental abilities needed to properly juggle a full-time job and content creation.

These help build discipline in a context where you’re only accountable to yourself.

1. Organization

9-to-5s are easier to structure.

You have a fixed schedule, usually under someone else’s charge, and with specific tasks required of you.

So your focus in terms of organization should be on the influencer duties.

Establishing a content calendar at least a month in advance was Chy’s secret weapon to never neglect that side of her life.

When full-time jobs have strict working hours, you’ll need to find the time to do everything else.

So, setting times to film, edit, and any other content-related activities will help you stay on track.

2. Batching

This lifestyle basically means having two jobs at the same time.

If you’re not careful and disciplined, you may soon start to feel overwhelmed.

That’s why Chy recommends creating content in batches so you can get more done because you’re on a creative streak.

She assigns one or two days for filming, a day for editing, and so on and so forth.

And just like that, you have available content for days when you might not feel creative at all.

Towards a better work ethic

One of the pros to this fusion, according to Chy, is the possibility of truly choosing what to do and not to do.

When you’re going for full-time influencer, sometimes you might need to take deals you don’t particularly like because a check is a check.

But having a steady income from a 9-to-5 allows you to be more selective.

Now, Chyanna feels like she doesn’t need to compromise her creativity or morals for money.

And this also helps her build an image she truly believes in.

One of the cons, though, is the tendency to not cut herself slack.

Yes, you need discipline and order, but not posting for one day or missing one event in the calendar isn’t anyone’s death.

Giving yourself grace takes time and can be harder.

We are our strictest bosses.

But allowing yourself to fail helps you build a durable relationship with your work.

The perfect blend

Chyanna Destinee proves there’s power in pursuing one's passions with unwavering determination.

By embracing the duality of being a tech professional and a content creator, she defies conventional norms.

Her journey shows chasing multiple paths and forging a unique trajectory isn’t only possible but also beneficial.

With a growing social media presence and a successful corporate career, Chy’s success story can serve as an inspiration for many.
